This book is really different

Honestly, as a dog behaviour specialist, I've read my fair share of books on understanding dog behaviour, but this one really hits different. What I appreciate most is how it teaches you to actually read your dog - like really understand what they're communicating before they hit that threshold where everything falls apart.

The book covers a plethora of training strategies that I use daily. The sections on desensitisation and counter-conditioning are explained in a way that makes sense even if you're not super technical. And the emphasis on socialisation? Chef's kiss. Too many people think socialisation is just throwing their dog into chaotic situations, but this book breaks down how to do it properly without overwhelming your pup.

What really got me though were two chapters in particular. The one about building trust and a relationship with your dog is something every owner needs to read, regardless of whether they have a dog with behavioural issues or not. It's not just about obedience - it's about connection, and that's where real transformation happens. And the section on different types of play? Game changer. Play isn't just fun, it's a training tool and a way to decompress, and having that variety of options has been super helpful.

The whole concept of creating safe spaces for dogs is woven throughout the book, which I love because it acknowledges that management is part of training. You can't just train away anxiety without giving your dog places and strategies to feel secure.

It's practical without being overwhelming, and the approach is humane and science-backed. If you're working with a dog with behavioural issues or just want to understand canine behaviour better, this is definitely worth your time.

A very informative and constructive read

What a wonderful book, full of advice and information about dog behaviour. We run a rescue centre here, and although we have years of experience with difficult dogs, I now have some really good information to refer to. Dogs are very complex animals, full of emotion, that deserve the people around them to read the signs correctly and do the right thing for them. This book helps so much to guide you in the right direction.

I highly recommend this book!

I recently had the pleasure of working with an outstanding dog psychologist who truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment he arrived at my home, it was clear that he was not just knowledgeable but genuinely passionate about helping both dogs and their owners.

He took the time to assess my situation in detail, carefully observing my dog’s behaviour and listening to my concerns. His personalised approach made all the difference, as he tailored his recommendations specifically to my dog's needs. It was evident that he really cares about the well-being of animals, and his insights were both practical and effective.

What impressed me the most was his ability to connect with my dog, creating a comfortable environment that allowed for open communication. His expertise and understanding helped us take significant steps toward improving our situation.

I highly recommend this incredible man to anyone seeking help with their dog. His dedication, professionalism, and compassionate approach make him a standout in the field!

Rob, we thank you for everything!

The book dog owners and lovers have been waiting for

This book is amazing. It has already made a significant difference in how I connect with my own dog. What’s been especially valuable is how it’s helped me better understand my dog’s emotional signals, which has made our relationship stronger and more harmonious.

But it’s not just for dog owners—this book is also incredibly useful for anyone who interacts with dogs, whether you’re walking through the park or simply encounter them on a daily basis. I’ve found that understanding the emotional language of dogs has made me more confident in knowing what to expect from them, even when they’re not my own. It’s been especially helpful in situations where I might encounter a dog I don’t know, as the book explains how to read their body language and emotional cues. This has really boosted my confidence and helped me feel more at ease around dogs in general.

I think this book is a great resource not only for dog owners but also for those who may be intimidated or fearful of dogs. The more we understand them, the less we have to fear. I truly believe that this book helps bridge that gap and fosters a greater understanding of our canine companions.

Rob Wright has done a wonderful job putting together a guide that’s insightful, compassionate, and practical. Whether you’re a dog owner or simply someone who wants to understand dogs better, this book is a must-read. I only wish I had found it sooner—it would have made a big difference in how I approached my relationship with my dog from the start.

Thank you Rob!
